Major James W. Ayers Scholarship
Initiated in 1968 as the result of a contribution from Mrs. Innis Ayers, the scholarship is named in memory of her son, Major James W. Ayers, Class of 1957, who gave his life in defense of his country in Vietnam. Preference is given to cadets from Berkeley County, South Carolina, who wish to be a member of the Untied States Marine Corps. In addition, scholarships are determined on a financial need basis for cadets who possess attributes in accord with the high standards of The Citadel. First award: 1969.
