Mrs. Ann Marie McKay and COL William L. McKay, '53 Scholarship

The sounds of bagpipes were first heard at The Citadel in 1955 and have continued to be one of the most distinguishing and visible elements of The Citadel. In September of 2012, in an effort to recognize the significance of The Citadel’s Pipe Band; to honor Colonel McKay’s Scots ancestry; and to advance Mrs. McKay’s interest in supporting music; COL and Mrs. William L. McKay announced to The Citadel Foundation their intention to establish the Mrs. Ann Marie McKay and COL William L. McKay, ‘53 Scholarship. The McKay’s generosity to The Citadel consists of $25,000 to establish the endowed scholarship fund and a gift of $6,250 to establish a non-endowed jump start fund. The purpose of this endowment is to provide funds to support a member of The Citadel Pipe Band. The recipient may be a piper or a drummer.
