John Murray Compton Scholarship
The John Murray Compton Scholarship was initiated in 1985 as the result of contributions from Mary Ellen C. Compton and Compton family members. The scholarship is named in memory of Mrs. Compton’s husband, John Murray Compton, The Class of 1943. Scholarships are available to cadets who possess attributes in accord with the high standards of The Citadel. Preference is given to cadets from Summerville, South Carolina, but residents of surrounding areas are also considered. The first award was made in 1986.
