Marietta V. and Howard W. Alton, Jr., Scholarship

The Marietta V. and Howard W. Alton, Jr., Scholarship was initiated in 1990 with a contribution from Marietta V. Alton. Mr. Alton, who was a member of the Class of 1959, was President of the Arkansas Citadel Club and active in recruiting for The Citadel. Recipients of the scholarship must have been participants in varsity high school sports. Scholarships are available to candidates who are initially from Arkansas, with preference to cadets who have a parent or parents currently in or retired from the U.S. Armed Forces. Financial need shall not be a consideration. The first award was made in 1992. ** Amended in 2016 to make the scholarship more awardable. First preference shall be given to students residing in Arkansas and second preference given to students residing in Texas. In the event that no eligible student from either state is enrolled, the scholarship shall be awarded to any eligible student who is a U.S. citizen.
