Matthew Allen Combs Memorial Scholarship

The Matthew Allen Combs Memorial Scholarship was initiated in March 1996 by Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Combs in memory of their son Matthew Allen Combs, a sophomore in the Corps of Cadets who was killed while riding a bicycle in downtown Charleston. Recipients must be a male graduate of Lexington High School, Lexington, South Carolina, who is the upper half of his high school academically. Financial need must be demonstrated, and he must possess those attributes of ability, character, temperament, and personality that are in accord with traditionally high standards of The Citadel. The scholarship shall be extended for two years if the recipient remains conduct and academically proficient following matriculation at The Citadel. The first award was made in 1998.
