John A. Velotta Class of 1993 Armed Forces Scholarship
In October 2007, John C. and Sandra L. Velotta announced to The Citadel Foundation their intention to establish a named, endowed scholarship in memory of their son, John A. Velotta, Citadel Class of 1993. While at The Citadel, John was a member of Delta Company and a Navy contract student. He was a member of The Citadel Pistol Team and ranked seventh nationally. He was also regimental doubles racquetball champion. He graduated from The Citadel with a BS in Business Administration and after his graduation, he served for 5 1/2 years on active duty with the United States Navy. The purpose of the endowment is to provide funds to support deserving cadets pursuing a military commission in the United States armed forces. Awards shall be given to cadets seeking military commissions in the following order of priority: 1.) cadets seeking commissions in the U.S. Navy; then 2.) cadets seeking commissions in the U.S. Marine Corps.; then 3.) cadets seeking commissions in the U.S. Army or Air Force. The Office of Financial Aid shall determine recipients according to these preferences. The College Scholarship Committee administers the scholarship program at The Citadel. Endowed scholarships will be awarded on a year-to-year basis. Students who are recipients one year are eligible for consideration in any other year, however, they must again comply with the selection criteria.
