COL Thomas R. Dion, P.E., P.L.S. Class of 1968, Scholarship
In October of 2018, Mr. Kenneth E. Hill, ’83, announced to The Citadel Foundation his intention to establish the COL Thomas R. Dion, P.E., P.L.S., Class of 1968, Scholarship. Colonel Dion was a legendary professor of civil engineering at The Citadel from 1976 until 2013. He received the 2010 Citadel Palmetto Medal, the 2011 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) South Carolina LeTellier Cup award, and the 2013 Lifetime Service award from the South Carolina Society of Professional Land Surveyors. A classroom in LeTellier Hall is dedicated in his honor. “Colonel D” encouraged his students to pursue excellence through hard work, prioritization, attention to detail and maintaining a sense of humor in difficult times. The primary purpose of the COL Thomas R. Dion, P.E., P.L.S., Class of 1968, Scholarship is to provide funds to support civil engineering cadets demonstrating financial need. The scholarship is available to rising sophomores with a 2.25 GPA or higher, rising juniors with a 2.50 GPA or higher, and rising seniors with a 2.75 GPA or higher, who regularly attend ASCE student chapter functions.
