MajGen John S. Grinalds, USMC, Ret., Fund for International Students

In December of 2020, MajGen John S. Grinalds, USMC, Ret. announced to The Citadel Foundation his intention to establish the endowed MajGen John S. Grinalds, USMC, Ret., Fund for International Students and a companion non-endowed jump start fund. The MajGen John S. Grinalds, USMC, Ret., Fund for International Students is the successor to the Lesser Developed Countries fund, established by General Grinalds in 1999. The fund’s evolution to its current iteration takes into consideration that international students are required to prove that they have funding to cover the first year of their cost of attendance to the institution. Therefore this fund is designed to offer financial assistance for educational expenses related to attending The Citadel or for unexpected expenses. The primary purpose of the MajGen John S. Grinalds, USMC, Ret., Fund for International Students is to provide grants to international students for educational expenses related to attending The Citadel or for unexpected expenses. First preference shall be given to cadets from under-developed countries. The Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Services and International Studies and the Director of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships shall work collaboratively to identify qualifying students.
