James H. Ferrera, '81, Scholarship

The primary purpose of the James H. Ferrera, ‘81, Scholarship is to provide merit-based financial resources to support one out-of-state cadet at The Citadel who is majoring in mathematics. In years in which no cadet meets the major criteria, the scholarship will be available to a cadet majoring in cyber operations or computer science, and subsequently to any cadet whose major falls within the Swain Family School of Science and Mathematics. Recipients must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA. The Dean of the Swain Family School of Science and Mathematics will work in concert with the Director of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to select the best merit-based recipient. The donor requests that all of the recommended grant be applied to one cadet each year to have the greatest meaningful impact on each recipient. Each year, any unspent funds are to be returned to the endowment. The freshman cadet applicant should be notified of the award with the first round of financial aid recipients. The donor’s intent is for the same cadet to maintain the scholarship for all four years. If the recipient is unable to meet the 3.0 GPA, the grant will be awarded to an incoming, out-of-state freshman cadet.
